“Get Info 0.9” is a simple dropbox that causes the Finder show the information window of files dropped on it.
In case you are wondering why I patched together a utility that appears to duplicate the functionality of a menu command, “Get Info” resolves any aliases it receives.
I put this together because I have a window of application aliases and, because of my limited memory, I find myself frequently changing application memory allocations. To do this before, I would have to use the menu choice to get the alias’ info box, then click “Find Original,” and finally use the menu to get the app’s info. A tedious process, yes, no? “Get Info” cuts out all the middle steps. The only other way to do this without AppleScript is to use a well known control panel that has “Alias Resolving” for the File menu. However, I’m too cheap to send in $25 just to use this one feature. (-;
This program was created with DropShell 1.0a by Leonard Rosenthol and some code from Symantec’s THINK Reference that I ported to Pascal. (Yes, Pascal.) Thus, most of the code is copyrighted by these two parties.
“Get Info” works with 7.0.x and 7.1.x. It also works with 7.5, but you already wrote a AppleScript droplet to do this, right? (-:
Known Problem
- Multiple files dropped on “Get Info” create windows that cover each other up instead of staggering like the Finder does. I know
why this is, and it may be fixed in a 1.0 release.

- Be able to do a “Find Original” that doesn’t also select the application itself. )-:
